97 points -- The intense and now slowly, indeed almost grudgingly maturing pinot fruit just explodes from the glass offering beautifully nuanced smoke, violets and a cornucopia of red fruit. The mid-palate is still relatively tight with flavors that are so precise that they seem to etch themselves into your palate before joining with a seamless finish that seems to go on and on. Mugnier once told me that this is the finest wine he has ever made and I don't doubt it for a second. This is thrill a second juice that should drink well for another 15 to 20 years, perhaps longer. The word brillliant does not seem adequate to describe just how good this wine is. Note: While my notes are reasonably consistent with this wine, I have encountered some minor bottle variation as another recent bottle, while still very fine, seemed to have lost the freshness described above; whether it was due to shipping or storage I cannot say
